World Ag Expo Forage Challenge Deadline Approaching

Dec 12, 2012

THE WORLD AG EXPO FORAGE CHALLENGE deadline has been extended until December 19, 2012.  Hurry to get your samples in right away!

There are $18,000 worth of prizes for the winners, and it's a point of pride for farmers to show their skill in the art and science of haymaking and silage production. Growers submit samples that will be up against all other growers in the Western States.  These are analyzed blindly by Cumberland Valley Analytical Services in Maryland, the data managed by University of California forage experts and judged by independent nutritionists.  There are three categories: alfalfa hay, conventional corn silage, and BMR corn silage.  70% of the judging is based upon lab analysis and 30% is based upon visual analysis.

Last year's contest results with photos can be seen here:  http://alfalfa.ucdavis.edu/+pages/worldexpo/index.aspx

Winners will be announced 12 February, 2013 at the World Ag Expo, which is held in Tulare, CA.  Current announcement for the contest is here: http://www.worldagexpo.com/forage-challenge (click on entry form at the bottom).  An entry form with rules is also attached to this blog.

Samples must be submitted with entry form and entry fee to UC Davis by Wednesday, 19 December, 2012.
